How to care for your dog after neutering

2021-06-01 / 426 Read

Male dogs will recover much faster than female dogs after neutering, because male dogs are operated externally, while female dogs need to open their abdominal cavity. After the operation, the owner needs to accompany the dog in the hospital until it can stand and walk independently before leaving. During the period before the stitches are removed, proper care can help the dog recover as soon as possible.

Under general anesthesia, the dog's thermoregulation function is reduced, which is likely to cause hypothermia. If the temperature is lower than 38.5 degrees Celsius, you need to use a heating pad to keep the dog warm.

Animals were required to fast for 6 hours after the animal sterilization operation, and the trachea and other parts were in a paralyzed state when they were not fully awake to prevent the danger of foreign body pneumonia or even suffocation caused by vomiting.

Male animals should wear an Elizabethan ring for a week after surgery to prevent infection from the dog's licking of the wound. In addition to wearing an Elizabethan ring, female animals should also wear surgical gowns to prevent the wound from being exposed to bacteria, and the sutures can be removed 7-10 days after surgery.

Although pain-relieving drugs were injected on the day of the operation, it may still cause pain after surgery, resulting in loss of appetite and nervousness. Intravenous infusion can be given for three days, mainly for anti-infection, pain relief, and nutritional supplementation. This effect can also be achieved by oral medication.

Try to avoid strenuous activity before the stitches are removed to avoid rupture or slow healing.
