Dogs cannot do without water, but how much does a dog consume a day?

Water is an indispensable substance for dogs to maintain normal physiological activities and metabolism. Water makes up more than 60 percent of an adult dog's body weight and about 80 percent of a puppy's body weight. The digestion, absorption and operation of various nutrients in the dog, the discharge of metabolites, the regulation of body temperature, endocrine, blood and lymph circulation, lactation and other physiological and biochemical processes are inseparable from the participation of water. A dog's need for water far exceeds the need for food. When water is deficient, dogs will show symptoms such as irritability, thirst, decreased appetite, slowed digestion, and reduced resistance to disease due to dry mucous membranes and skin. Long-term lack of water in dogs will lead to deep sunken eyes, rough and inelastic skin, and even circulatory disorders due to thick blood, which may lead to death in severe cases.

China Famous Dog Network recommends that, under normal circumstances, adult dogs need 80 to 120 ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day; puppies need 140 to 170 ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day. The amount of drinking water varies with seasons, feed types and management methods. In actual breeding, drinking water can be provided throughout the day for the dog to drink freely.
