Chinchillas are social creatures, so they can be easily domesticated. Even an adult chinchilla who hasn't been held will easily learn to trust and play with its owner. Although chinchillas are spiritual and intelligent and can be trained to do some simple movements, you should never try to train your chinchillas to be dogs obedient. Because chinchillas are very independent, if it doesn't like to listen to you, don't force them too much. If you want to train it, what are the methods of training chinchillas?
Preparations for training chinchillas:
1. Divide a large raisin into 10 to 20 portions, mainly because I am afraid that I will not be able to digest it if I eat too much at one time. The usual chinchilla snacks can also be used, but they should not be too small, otherwise people will not look at them.
2. You can train chinchillas to do some simple actions such as standing and shaking hands. At the beginning, train chinchillas to respond to your call.
3. Put one hand flat on the door of the cage and call it come up. The sound should be crisp and the pronunciation should be as consistent as possible each time.
1) Day 1: Shaking the raisins to tease it every time, and only give a small amount with the other hand when all four feet are on the hand. Give it an empty hand when it runs out of a raisin, and then close the cage door to signify the end.
2) Second day: Smell the good stuff in the other hand to indicate that the raisin training is about to start, and then repeat the action of yesterday.
3) Day 3 and Day 4: At this time, it is relatively smooth, you can prolong the standing time and increase the difficulty.
How to train chinchillas:
1. Run fast
Let chinchillas play outside the cage and get ready to watch his various runs. Totoro is eager to explore the surrounding environment, he will rush from one corner to the next corner, smell the ground with his nose, detect various objects with his hands or teeth, and he can have a lot of fun. If you're lucky, you'll also be targeted for exploration by Chinchillas. You can sit on the floor and see if he explores on you, and if you put a running wheel on him in the chinchilla cage, you'll see how he gallops.
2. Climbing
My Neighbor Totoro is a rock climbing fanatic, so be surprised. No matter how high they are, just give them something to support themselves and they can climb there. You should find this out when you let your chinchillas move outside the cage. He will try to climb all the heights he can, especially those where his little hands and feet can stand safely. He'll even crawl into his own cage if given the chance. Because chinchillas like to climb, restrain him from climbing too high. In case the chinchilla falls from a height, he will be injured.
3. Jumping
Totoro likes to jump. If you set up a chinchilla in a cage with two platform ramps, you'll often see him jump from one to the other. When free to move outside the cage, your chinchilla will find some objects to jump on and play with.
4. Move or Flip
Chinchillas can also be trained to hear commands to roll or dance. These actions will obviously amaze your friends. The same training still needs his favorite snack to assist. Make sure your chinchilla can see the treats in your hand, then gently wrap your hand around the chinchilla's head while saying roll and dance. Your chinchilla's body will move or flip along with your hand movements, and once he's done what you want, reward him with a treat. Repeat the above training until Totoro masters the password. Eventually, you can get him to act without the need for a snack. But please also give him loving encouragement after his perfect performance is complete.
5. Walk upright
You may have seen how kangaroos move upright at the zoo or in TV movies. If you're a chinchilla owner, you can see your chinchillas do the same thing. When Chinchilla wants to quickly get from one side of the room to the other, he hides his two little hands on his chest and pushes him forward with his strong hind legs. Watching chinchillas walk upright is very interesting, especially when the chinchilla shows you unexpectedly.
6. Training chinchillas to urinate at a fixed point
1) Training chinchillas to urinate at a fixed point is very beneficial to maintain the hygiene in the cage. You may not be able to train your chinchillas to poop and pee in the same spot as a cat uses a cat toilet, but luckily you can also teach them to pee in a stationary container that's easy to clean.
2) First find out where the chinchilla likes to pee in the cage. In cage chinchillas like to pee in the same place. Once you find the urine spot inside the cage, put a container there, preferably a ceramic jar, with pads soaked in his urine. With any luck, your chinchilla will soon learn your intentions and just pee in there every day.
