Snow

In the huge rabbit family, Snow Rabbit can be described as an elder. According to scientific research, as early as the Ice Age, snow rabbits were widely distributed all over Europe. As glaciers receded, snow rabbits migrated to ice sheets and alpine areas near the Arctic.

Snow rabbits are about 45-62 cm in length and can weigh 2-5.5 kg. Compared with domestic rabbits, the biggest difference in appearance is that snow rabbits have shorter ears. Because they live in cold climates all year round, ears that are too large can cause excessive heat loss from the body. The slightly shorter ears fit snugly on the back for easy maintenance of body temperature.

Snow rabbits aren't named because of their snow-white fur. In fact, snow rabbits are white only in winter, soft and dense, reaching up to 5 cm in the longest place, protecting their bodies from severe cold. Spring blossoms, and the white fur fades away, replaced by a light chestnut-brown needle hair. Therefore, the snow rabbit is also known as the color-changing rabbit. The top of the back, the back of the ears and the tips of the ears are mixed with short black-brown hairs, the chest and the outside of the fore and hind limbs are light yellow brown, the abdomen and the inside of the limbs are pure white, the bristles of the fore limbs are light chestnut, and the back of the tail has brown markings. This protective color makes them blend in with the forest and are not easily detected by predators.

Due to climatic conditions, the mating period of snow rabbits is only three months from March to May. During these three months, the originally timid and solitary snow rabbit became very active. In order to win the heart of the female rabbit, the male rabbits often fight each other.

Despite their harsh living conditions, they continue their ancient lineage. Like an elves, guarding the silver-clad northern kingdom.
