Eight Habits of Rabbits

Somnolence: Rabbits often close their eyes and rest during the day, appearing in a quiescent or sleeping state. At this time, other stimuli other than hearing are not easy to cause excitement. According to this habit, in addition to ensuring normal feeding, drinking water and daily management, the breeder should keep the rabbit house and the surrounding environment quiet, and try not to hinder the rabbit's sleep during the day.         Nocturnal Feeding: Rabbits have the characteristics of day and night movement. During the day, people are listless, close their eyes and rest their minds, and eat very little food; when they are energetic at night, they eat more food and drink more water, which accounts for more than 70% of the whole day. Therefore, it is necessary to feed enough grass and drink enough water at night, and farmers who have the conditions can feed it once in the middle of the night.         Timidity: Rabbits are timid animals, and can use their keen hearing to make judgments when encountering enemies. Sudden sounds, strangers or unfamiliar animals, such as cats and dogs, will make Tutu panic and disturb the surrounding Tutu. Therefore, in feeding and management, the movements should be as light and steady as possible, and also prevent strangers or other animals from entering the rabbit house.         Solitary: Rabbits have groups but are poor. When raised in groups, male, female and adult rabbits of the same sex often fight with each other, especially male rabbits. Pay more attention to new purchases. Therefore, adult rabbits should be kept in single cages.         Cleanliness: Tutu likes a clean and dry living environment. The humid and dirty environment is easy to cause the spread of parasites of rabbit infectious diseases. Therefore, in the design and daily management of the rabbit house, it is necessary to ensure that the house is clean and dry, warm in winter and cool in summer, and well ventilated.         Biting: The first pair of incisors of the rabbit are permanent teeth, which are present at birth and will never be replaced , and continue to grow. Rabbits must constantly wear and tear through feeding and chewing hard objects in order to maintain the normal bite of their upper and lower incisors. Therefore, in raising rabbits, we should pay attention to the construction of cages, and try to use materials that rabbits do not like to chew on, so as to prolong the service life of rabbit cages. In addition, rabbits should often be provided with conditions for teeth grinding, such as processing compound feed into hard pellet feed, or placing more branches or wooden sticks in the cage for rabbits to chew on, so as to facilitate the abrasion of incisors and promote the chewing and digestion of feed.         Coprophagy: Coprophagy refers to the rabbit's instinctive behavior of eating part of its own feces. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and is beneficial to rabbits. Usually rabbits excrete two kinds of feces, one is granular hard feces, excreted during the day. One is a clump of soft feces that are expelled at night. When the rabbit excretes soft feces, it will naturally bow its waist and use its mouth to eat from the anus, and then swallow it after chewing a little. Therefore, in management, we should pay attention to observe whether there is soft feces in the house. If soft feces are found, the rabbits should be checked for health in time, so that the disease can be treated early to reduce losses.         Burrowing: Burrowing refers to the instinctive behavior of rabbits to burrow and give birth in the hole. This habit cannot be used for modern rabbit production. However, in the case of caged breeding, it is necessary to build a farrowing box or nest for the breeding female rabbit, so that the female rabbit can give birth in the box (the nest). However, when building a rabbit house, the burrowing nature of rabbits must be taken into account. Due to improper selection of rabbit materials or unreasonable design, some rabbits make burrows in the house, which brings difficulties to the feeding and management.
