If you've never cared for small rabbits (house rabbits, not hares), here are some guidelines:

Although rabbits make nests , but they are not chickens, and even if the nest is ready, they will not sit on it all day. After the bunnies are born, they also don't sit in or near the nest all day long. Doing so draws the predator's attention away from the little rabbit to the larger rabbit lingering near the nest. The little rabbits in the nest will scrape down with their small claws and burrow to the bottom of the nest, and will not climb out to feed until their mother wakes them up during feeding time.

Few female rabbits will breastfeed immediately after reproduction. Most of the time, the mother rabbit will start breastfeeding the night after giving birth. Rabbit milk is rich in nutrients, and feeding it once a day can maintain all the nutrients and energy the baby rabbit needs. Breastfeeding is usually between midnight and five in the morning.

The female rabbit does not lie down in the nest to feed, like the female cat, but stands on top of the bunny to breastfeed, but the female rabbit also cleans the poop of the bunny and licks their poo like the female cat. abdomen and bottom to stimulate bowel movements.

If you want clear evidence that the mother rabbit is actually taking care of the bunnies, please check in the morning, the bunnies should be warm and well licked . The best way to do this is to measure the bunny on a small scale and write down their weight progress. If the weight has increased (seven or eight grams), it means that the female rabbit has been breastfed.

Even if the mother rabbit doesn't know you, you can still pet the bunnies, as domestic rabbits are less likely to care about human odors.

Rabbits are not cannibalistic as many people think. Only when a stillborn is born, the mother rabbit will eat the dead bunny, which is also one of nature's ways of cleaning up errors. The activity of healthy little rabbits, and their tender calls, will actively touch the mother rabbit's mother.

Only in rare instances have female rabbits actually abandoned or neglected their offspring. This happens most often when the female rabbit is not fully biologically mature, that is, her nesting instinct has not been awakened, so that she has not done anything at all before giving birth, which can lead to insufficient milk supply, Or the milk won't come out right away. Sometimes the bunny must be artificially fed for a while, until the mother rabbit has milk secretion and can take over the mother's work. And measuring the daily weight change of the bunnies is also an indicator of whether they are getting proper nutrition. (If it is really necessary to artificially feed, please refer to page 81 of the Rabbit Association Handbook)

Generally speaking, male rabbits can coexist peacefully with small rabbits. little bunnies live together. When the puppies reach puberty and become irritable, the male rabbit will start biting them or play rough with them. That's when they should be separated. Before putting the male rabbit back to the female rabbit, be sure to sterilize it, because the female rabbit can be fertilized immediately after giving birth. Male and female rabbits must be separated for at least two weeks after ligation.
