Don't think that just a small water tank is enough for raising turtles. To make turtles live comfortably, you need to prepare a lot of things! Let the editor tell you one by one!
Indoor breeding environment
As long as the breeding container is waterproof, plastic or glass water tanks can be Can. The size should allow the turtle to have room to move around, and the height should be deep enough to prevent the turtle from escaping. The breeding environment should have land where the tortoises can rest and a space to swim freely. The bottom of the pool should be first covered with pebbles or sand, and then filled with an appropriate amount of water. Newbies who breed for the first time can use pebbles that are easier to clean, because sanitation is more important than anything else, and you should change the water diligently! Turtles are very nervous animals, so they need a hiding place. Be sure to help the turtle to find a hiding place in the water, such as a tunnel made of tiles or planting plants, etc. The small space will make the turtle feel at ease.
In addition, in order to avoid the escape of turtles or the harassment of other pets in the home, it is best to prepare a lid to cover the top of the feeding container, but the lid should pay attention to ventilation. Then there is the temperature management. Be sure to have insulation lamps! It is recommended to use 60-75W insulation lamps and 60W sun lamps for a 60cm sink; because the temperature is low at night, you should turn on the insulation lamps at night to avoid temperature drop. The temperature is maintained at 26-30°C during the day and 18-23°C at night. The sun lamp should face the land, pay attention to safety.
Turtles must sunbathe, so the land should be set up so that the turtles can stay on top for as long as possible to bask their shells. Any material from the land will do. Most of them use bricks or large stones. Note that sunbathing is meaningless if the UV rays are blocked through glass. Please let the turtles get direct sunlight as much as possible, and pay attention to having a shaded place. If you can't get natural sunlight indoors, you must also prepare a UV lamp (20W) for at least 8 hours a day.
Focus on cleaning the sink
Turtles are very good at defecation, so it is easy to soil the water. Moreover, the water that the turtles drink is the water in the sink. If it is too dirty, the turtles will not drink and become dehydrated, which will lead to various diseases! Even if a filter is installed, it cannot be kept completely clean. Turtles change water. In summer, change the water about once every two days and clean it once a week. In winter, the water is changed once a week and cleaned once every two weeks. Or you can change the water if it feels dirty. The breeding environment of the hatchlings cannot be equipped with a filter. Please change the water for the turtles every day.
How to change the water
1. Move the turtle to another empty tank.
2. Put a bucket under the sink, suck out the water with a manual pump, and stir the water in the sink with a stick at the same time, so that feces and food residues are sucked out together with the water.
3. Suck the water in the sink completely into the bucket and then pour it out.
4. Pour clean water into the sink and put the turtle back.
How to clean
1. Move the turtle to another empty sink.
2. Remove the lighting fixtures.
3. Take everything out of the sink.
4. Take the sink to the toilet to flush.
5. Brush the sink clean on the balcony or patio. If a filter is used, also clean the contents of the filter.
Outdoor breeding environment
If it is for breeding purposes, it is better to have a breeding environment close to nature. A part of the pool is separated into two kinds of environments, such as water and land, with tools such as fine nets, and the ratio is about 1:2 or 2:3. The overall area should be at least 0.5 square meters. In the hibernation or breeding environment, the water depth should be at least 30cm. When breeding, it is best to prepare a larger area. In order to prevent turtles from escaping from the pool, they can be surrounded by stones; in the center of the pool, bricks or soil should be used to set up a place for eggs. Also, remember not to keep fish together. The outdoor environment should also be careful of the invasion of foreign animals.
