Arachnida
Arachnida ) The collective name for 900 species of insects in the order Solifugae (formerly Solpugida). Living in hot and dry areas, most species are golden yellow and inactive during the day, hence its common name. Also known as wind scorpion (because of agility) or camel spider (because of head bulge). The belly is hairy and round, resembling a spider; the front appendages resemble a scorpion. The body length is 10 to 50 cm (0.4 to 2 cm). Extremely gluttonous, the largest species can even kill small vertebrates. Chelicerae (first pair of appendages) large, pincer-like and toothed. The tentacles (the second pair of appendages) are foot-like and have suction cups at the ends for prey. Hind feet have racket-shaped organs (balance bars), possibly sensory organs. Common in Africa, southeast to India, Indonesia (especially Celebes), and parts of the New World.
