The BassetThe most iconic thing about the Hound is its large drooping ears, but its loose skin and short legs and aggrieved crying expression are deep at a glance People like it, don't think it's bulky and inflexible because of its long body, short feet and big drooping ears. If you think so, it's wrong. Its keen sense of smell and long-term endurance also make it a Excellent hunters, so you must pay attention to such a cute and honest Bajidu when purchasing.
Head
Head is large and well-proportioned. The length from the occiput to the muzzle is greater than the width of the Basset Hound on the forehead. Throughout the appearance, the head is of moderate width. The skull is hemispherical, with a prominent occipital bulge. A broad, flat skull is substandard. The length from the nose to the depression is approximately the length from the depression to the occiput. The sides are flat and the cheeks are not raised. Viewed from the side, the crest line of the snout and skull is straight and parallel planes, the depression is more obvious. The skin of the entire head is slack, and when it bows its head, obvious folds accumulate on the forehead. A dry head and taut skin don't qualify. The muzzle is deep and thick, but the muzzle is not long. The nose is dark black, preferably black. The nostrils are large and fully open. A dark auburn nose that matches the color of the head is permissible but not optimal. The teeth are large, well-built, and straight, with staggered or fully occlusal canines. Prominent maxilla or protruding mandible are fatal flaws. The lips are black and drooping, with a straight corner in front, sloping back, and the upper lip hanging loosely. Throat hang is very obvious. The neck is strong, of moderate length and arched. The eyes are tender and sad, slightly sunken, with a pronounced nictitating membrane. The color is brown, brown is the best. Light-colored eyes that are consistent with the dog's overall color are also permitted, but not optimal. Very shallow or protruding eyes are disqualified. The ears are very long and set low, overlapping just at the base of the nose when moved forward. They are velvety in texture, drape loosely, and curl slightly inward at the bottom edge. The ears are located very far back on the head, at the base of the skull, and appear to be on the neck at rest. Ears that are set high or straight are serious defects.
Forequarters
Deep chest. The prominent sternum is clearly visible on the front of the legs. Shoulders and elbows rest against the sides of the chest. The distance from the lowest point of the chest to the ground should be no more than 1/3 of the entire height of an adult Basset Hound at the point of the bulge between the shoulder blades on the back, but must, of course, allow it to walk freely when working in the field. The shoulders are well set back and powerful. Sloping shoulders, flat front and elbows out, are serious flaws. The forelegs are short and powerful, with heavy bone and wrinkled hide. A kick in the front leg is disqualified. The paws are heavy, with firm, thick pads, very rounded, and all four feet are equally sloping slightly outward to maintain balance with shoulder width. A foot below the tie is a serious defect, the toes are neither pinched together nor separated, and each toe bears the weight of the front of the body equally. Dewclaws may have disappeared.
