Conjunctivitis can be divided into three types: acute conjunctivitis, chronic conjunctivitis, and suppurative conjunctivitis.
Acute conjunctivitis: mainly palpebral conjunctiva and fornix conjunctiva hyperemia. Such as inflammation of the conjunctiva and the bulbar conjunctiva, the inflammatory reaction is strong, and a small amount of serous, purulent or even pseudomembranous secretions can be seen in the eye mucus, the conjunctiva is swollen and painful, and the palpebral fissure is narrow or atresia.
Chronic conjunctivitis: papillae and follicles are formed on the surface of the conjunctiva, the swelling is not obvious, and the luster is lacking. Dry bulbar conjunctivitis caused by decreased tear secretion, manifesting blepharospasm.
Suppurative conjunctivitis: Eczema occurs on the skin of the eyelid, and the dog may feel itching. The long course of the disease can cause corneal opacity. If your dog's eyes are itchy, try not to let the dog scratch it to avoid infection.
1. When acute conjunctivitis is severely congested, wash eyes with 3% boric acid solution or 0.1% Rivanol solution, apply cold compress, and apply anti-inflammatory eye ointment, 4 times a day. When the pain is severe, 2% cocaine can be used for eye drops. For chronic conjunctivitis, hot compress can be applied, and a concentrated solution of zinc sulfate or silver nitrate can be applied locally to the eyes. For papillary proliferation and follicle formation, crystalline copper sulfate can be burned.
2. For canine conjunctivitis induced by canine distemper and other diseases, chloramphenicol ointment should be applied to the conjunctival sac on the basis of treating the primary disease, 1 to 3 times a day. Due to mycoplasma and chlamydia, choose chloramphenicol eye drops, 2 to 3 times a day. Bacterial infection should be selected according to the drug susceptibility test. For fungal conjunctivitis, use amphotericin B125μm, subconjunctival injection every other day for 2 weeks. This drug is toxic to conjunctival tissue and cannot be used for eye instillation.
3. For conjunctivitis caused by various irritating factors, the cause should be removed first. If the corneal tissue is not damaged, 0.05% flumethasone eye ointment can be applied in the conjunctival sac, 1 to 3 times a day; when acid and alkali invade, it is necessary to wash the eyes thoroughly for 5 to 10 minutes.
4. For those conjunctivitis caused by allergic factors, the first thing to do is to find the allergen, thimerosal instillation, 5 to 6 times a day. Or eye drops with lead sulfate solution, 3 to 5 times a day. Concomitant use of broad-spectrum antibiotics as appropriate.
5. For refractory suppurative conjunctivitis, 1% iodoform ointment should be used, and procaine penicillin should be used to seal the fundus.
Conjunctivitis in dogs is not a serious disease, but it cannot be ignored, otherwise it may cause worse effects over time. Therefore, when dogs are found to have similar symptoms, they should be treated as soon as possible. Treat it to prevent it from getting worse.
