The normal living temperature that the Carolina box turtle can adapt to is 25-30°C, and the optimum temperature is between 27-28°C. The Florida subspecies is slightly higher, with 29°C being the best. If you are raising Carolina box turtle larvae, or do not plan to let them hibernate, you should use a special tortoise heating plate or infrared light bulb for heating, and a small thermostat should also be installed in the tank. It is much more troublesome to keep warm than aquatic turtles.

After the Carolina box turtle burrows into the soil and enters the hibernation state, then cover it with a layer of dead leaves or straw, and the temperature should be controlled at 7-10℃. It should be noted that if the temperature rises above 15°C, the humus soil will become moldy and deteriorate under humid conditions, which is very detrimental to the health of the Carolina box turtle and should be avoided.
