When the red-faced mud turtle is relatively young, it is impossible to distinguish between males and females, because the distinguishing characteristics of male and female red-faced mud turtles are not obvious at this time. Generally speaking, only when the red-faced mud turtle has been reared for two or three days or when its body length reaches nearly 10 cm, can the male and female be more clearly distinguished. We can distinguish male and female red-faced mud turtles from the following aspects.

How

1. Look at the tail: male red-faced mud turtle and female red-faced mud turtle Mud turtles have different tails. First, you can see if there are scales on the tip of the red-faced mud turtle's tail. If there are more obvious scales, it means that it is a male red-faced mud turtle. If there are no scales, then it is a female red-faced mud turtle. Male and female red-faced mud turtles can also be distinguished by the size of their tails. For male red-faced mud turtles, their tails will be relatively thicker, while female red-faced mud turtles have smaller tails.

2. Look at the position of the cloaca: You can observe the position of the cloaca of the red-faced mud turtle. If the cloaca is closer to the plastron, then it is a female red-faced mud turtle. If the cloaca is far from the edge of the plastron, it is a male red-faced mud turtle.

3. Look at the limbs: You can also observe the limbs of the red-faced mud turtle. If there are rough scales on the hind limbs of the red-faced mud turtle, then it is a male red-faced mud turtle. On the contrary, if there are no rough scales, then it is a female red-faced mud turtle.
