The rotten skin of the spotted tortoise is highly contagious, so in the case of mixed breeding, as long as the symptoms of rotten skin are found, it needs to be isolated and raised separately. If necessary, the water in the rearing tank needs to be changed. If there are still individuals infected with rotten skin, consider turning the tank and sterilizing the rearing container. Containers are generally disinfected with povidone-iodine or potassium permanganate.

Povidone-iodine disinfection has less residual toxicity in the container, which is very harmful to the spots. The side effects of colored turtles are also small. Commercially available povidone-iodine is generally a 5% solution, which needs to be diluted before use. For container disinfection, the dilution ratio of 5% povidone-iodine solution and water is 1:300 about.
Potassium permanganate has a strong anti-virus effect, but it is difficult to clean the residual potassium permanganate in the container after disinfection, which may have certain side effects on the spotted turtle. There are many potassium permanganate preparations available in the market. When mixing, the water body turns red, and the disinfection time is generally about 30 minutes to an hour.
