The giant woodpecker (scientific name: Megalaima virens) is a medium-sized bird with a dark greenish-brown back and shoulders, and the rest of the upper body is grassy green. Head and neck blue or blue-green, feather base dark brown or black. Upper back and shoulders dark greenish-brown, or with dark red. The lower back, waist, upper tail coverts and tail feathers are bright grass green. Tail feathers dry dark brown. The food is mainly the flowers, fruits and seeds of Marsan, Araliaceae and other plants, and also eats various insects, especially during the breeding period.
