1. Acute gastroenteritis

Affected cats are thirsty and vomit after lying on the water bowl without drinking or drinking. The vomit contains blood streaks and yellow-green liquid. Animals exhibited high levels of dehydration, sunken eyeballs, and decreased skin elasticity. The frequency of defecation increases, the feces are thin and smelly, and a large amount of feces sticks around the anus. Animals resist abdominal examination, especially when the stomach is palpated with vomiting.

How is it treated?

The basic principle is to remove stimulating factors, provide measures to promote mucosal recovery, and correct dehydration. First of all, the diet should be restricted, and a small amount of sugar, salt and rice soup should be fed, a small amount of times. Feed high-sugar, low-fat, and low-protein easy-to-digest liquid foods. Anticholinergic drugs can reduce gastric motility and spasm, reduce gastric wall smooth muscle parasympathetic excitation, reduce gastric acid secretion and relieve vomiting. 5% dextrose saline can be given, 40 to 60 ml per kilogram of body weight per day. to replenish lost body fluids. General gastritis, oral administration of metoclopramide tablets, 2 to 3 times a day, 0.5 mg per kilogram of body weight each time. At the same time, intramuscular injection of streptomycin, 2 times a day, 10 mg per kilogram of body weight each time, the oral dose should be increased as appropriate.

The clinical presentation is characterized by high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration and leukopenia in the circulating blood and enteritis. The incubation period of the disease is 2 to 9 days, the most acute type, the animals die immediately without showing clinical symptoms, and are often mistaken for poisoning. The acute type has a short course of disease. Due to secondary bacteremia and endotoxemia, accompanied by small intestinal injury, death is often caused within 24 hours of infection. The subacute type has a course of about 7 days. The body temperature of the first fever is 40°C, and it drops to normal temperature in about 24 hours. After 2 to 3 days, the body temperature rises again, showing a biphasic type of fever, and the body temperature reaches 40°C. Sick cats lack energy, rough coat, anorexia, vomiting, hemorrhagic enteritis and dehydration symptoms, purulent secretions from eyes and nose, pregnant female cats infected with this disease, can cause miscarriage, stillbirth and other reproductive disorders.
