In order to prevent cats from urinating everywhere, we need to train cats to use cat litter, but of course cats are not born to use cat litter. The toilet is also extremely repulsive. I believe that the owners usually spend a lot of effort in teaching cats to use cat litter. Here are some practical cat litter training methods to easily make cats obediently go to the toilet in the litter box.

1. Method

1. Put the litter box in a quiet place. Cats like to go to the toilet in a quiet place without noise. Placing the litter box out of the way, such as the laundry room, secondary bathroom, or screened porch, can produce better training results. If your cat is young, be sure to keep the litter box within easy reach. You don't want your cat to climb up and down stairs or furniture in order to use the toilet. The litter box itself should also be comfortable for the cat. Cats generally prefer open litter boxes to closed cat toilets. You can use unscented cat litter (cats also like it), and it won't produce too much dust. The more comfortable the litter box is, the more likely it is that the cat will use it.

2. Put the cat in the litter box shortly after feeding the cat. Doing this after every feeding will help your cat begin to understand the role of the litter box. Eventually, the cat will automatically go to the litter box to go to the toilet when it needs it.

3. Reward the cat after using the cat litter.

Every time the cat successfully uses the litter box, give it a small treat as a reward and praise. Cats, like all animals (including humans), eat the compliments. This positive reinforcement quickly produces positive effects.

4. Don't punish the cat after pulling it.

Negative reinforcement won't train the cat, yelling at it or spanking it will only make it scared. If your cat poops or urinates elsewhere, let him smell the area he just pulled before gently placing him in the litter box.

5. Keep the litter box clean.

If cats occasionally start using flower pots or rugs as toilets, it is often because they feel that the litter box is not hygienic. Remember to shovel cat litter every day and clean the litter box several times a month. The cat litter should also be changed frequently so that the smell of cat urine does not linger.

6. Choose the litter your cat likes.

Some cats are picky about litter, so it's best to try a few different types of litter until you find the one your cat likes best.

Second, Precautions

Training kittens is the best Easy, but training as a cat is also possible. Buy treats your cat likes. Do not overfeed snacks. Doing so will make the cat so accustomed to the tasty treats that they won't be seen as a reward. It can also make cats fat and overweight, causing serious health problems.

Third, cats may feel unwell without using the litter box

If cats don’t use the litter box no matter how trained they are, the most common reason is that there is something wrong with their physical condition, such as urinary tract or bladder infections, intestinal parasites, injuries, etc. It is painful to defecate, so cats naturally associate the litter box with pain, so they will find other places that are more comfortable for them to defecate. Although the cat can't solve the pain by going to other places to defecate, it is a very useful signal for the owner. Once you find that the cat no longer uses the litter box, it is best to contact the veterinarian and give the cat a comprehensive 's physical examination. And if the cat not only does not use the litter box, but also does not defecate, the owner must take them to the pet hospital immediately, because if the cat cannot defecate normally for more than two days, they are very likely Died from acute renal failure.

Of course, cats not using the litter box are not necessarily all caused by their own diseases. It is possible that the cat litter is not suitable, the litter box is too small or too dirty. Dissatisfaction caused by cats, and then they protested to their owners by defecating elsewhere. However, as long as the cat does not use the litter box, the owner must find out the real reason as soon as possible, so as to avoid the death of the cat due to acute renal failure.
