Anal glands, also known as anal sacs, are a pair of pear-shaped glands located on both sides of the dog's anus at about four o'clock and eight o'clock, one on each side and one opening on each side. The anal glands are filled with anal gland fluid, which will turn black or dark brown liquid or muddy after a long time, with an unpleasant smell.
Do you want to squeeze the anal glands?
The anal glands have been accumulating for a long time , it is necessary to carry out the necessary cleaning to prevent its inflammation. When the anal glands are slightly blocked, the dog will grind the buttocks on the ground or lick the buttocks with their feet raised; in severe cases, the anal glands are swollen and painful, which will make it difficult for the dog to defecate.
It is best to squeeze clean during the dog bath, because the anal gland fluid is very smelly and bathing can remove the odor.
Steps for squeezing the dog's anal glands:
1. Hold the base of the dog's tail with the left hand to expose the anus;
2. Press the four o'clock and eight o'clock positions of the anus with the thumb and index finger of the right hand. If the anal gland is full of anal gland fluid, you will feel two bulging bags. 3. After squeezing inwards, push it towards the anus, the anal gland fluid will be discharged, and squeeze repeatedly until it is emptied.
Note:
1. Do not use excessive force when squeezing, to prevent the anal gland from being damaged and inflamed.
2. Long-term defecation of soft stools by dogs is likely to cause accumulation and blockage of anal gland fluid, so the cleaning cycle for the anal glands is relatively shorter.
3. Inflammation of the anal glands does not necessarily cause diarrhea in dogs. If the dog has diarrhea symptoms, you should seek medical attention in time and do not handle it at home.
