1. Otitis externa and otitis media

This disease is caused by bacteria, fungi or parasites such as ear ticks. It can also be caused by water in the ear or injuries caused by indiscriminate ear picking. In the early stage of the sick cat, the ear is very itchy, and the cat will keep shaking its head and scratching its ears. Soon there will be slightly black earwax with an unpleasant odor. The tympanic membrane ruptures, blisters and pustules appear, which further develops into otitis media. The ears are no longer itchy at this time, and will be sore, so the cat will hate to touch its ears.

Acute otitis externa or otitis media can cause severe pain in the ear, so when it is touched, it will scream in pain. In addition, there will be symptoms of fever, fatigue, weakness, listlessness, and squatting quietly. In this case, take the cat to the hospital immediately to find the cause and start treatment.

Auricular medication can be used for treatment. For parasitic otitis externa, after cleaning the ear canal, apply 1-2% trichlorfon aqueous solution to the affected area, and re-treat it every 4 days. For bacterial otitis externa, rinse the ear canal and apply chloramphenicol ointment and hydrocortisone ointment 1-2 times a day for 1 week. For fungal otitis externa, after thorough cleaning of the ear canal, Wuji ointment and chlortetracycline ointment can be used until the scales in the ear disappear.

It is said that if you leave it alone, the ear will deform into an oval shape, so it is better to perform surgery as soon as possible to keep the deformation to a minimum.

There are many reasons for auricular hematoma, most of which are caused by frequent shaking of the head, scratching the ear or biting the ear shell, causing subcutaneous hemorrhage of the ear shell, causing cat and dog ear hematoma. And fluctuating feeling, pressure causes pain, hardening after a few days, fluctuating feeling in the center, puncture to discharge blood, if the hematoma occurs at the base of the ear, the swelling will narrow the ear canal, or even block it, and the hearing will fail. The hematoma is prone to secondary infection, and after infection it becomes an abscess. The only conventional treatment for ear hematoma is surgery.

In addition, cat squamous cell carcinoma of the ear can also make cats resist when their ears are touched. If a cat has squamous cell carcinoma of the ear, the affected area will turn red, and there will be symptoms of dander and bleeding. Put the cat's ears upright, and there is a swollen and fleshy lesion at the front end of the auricle. This disease requires surgical treatment, so once it is confirmed that there is an abnormality in the ear, take it to the hospital immediately.
