Gastroenteritis is a common clinical disease of pets turtles, so what will lead to gastroenteritis in turtles . The occurrence of turtle gastroenteritis may be divided into two categories, one is the primary cause, and the other is the secondary cause.

Secondary causes

(1) Internal parasites: The most common clinical disease that can cause turtle gastroenteritis is internal parasitic diseases. Many wild tortoises carry a certain amount of parasites, such as pinworms, roundworms and other nematodes. Through violent capture, violent transportation, market trading and other links, they reach the new owner's hands or quickly or slowly. Diarrhea occurs. At this time, fecal parasite inspection is performed. , are often positive results.

(2) Systemic infectious diseases: The invasion of some severe infectious agents will cause infection in the whole body of the sick turtle, showing a variety of symptoms, including the symptoms of gastroenteritis.

(3) Liver disease: The liver is an important digestive organ and plays an important role in the digestive function of turtles. Therefore, liver lesions caused by various factors may also cause symptoms of gastroenteritis.

After briefly introducing the secondary causes of gastroenteritis, now we will introduce the primary causes of gastroenteritis in detail, because these are hidden in all aspects of our turtle raising, perhaps which one is the one we have overlooked?

Primary cause

(1) Deteriorated food: Some owners raise fewer turtles. In the early stage, they bought the turtle food because of the three-minute heat. The more I buy, the more the turtle food I finally buy can’t be eaten for a long time, or because I want to try different methods of turtle food to let the turtle eat, or some farmers don’t pay enough attention and feel that the expired turtle food should be eaten. It's not a big problem. If you lose it and waste it, you risk feeding it, which will cause more loss than gain.

(2) Unsuitable food: Some players keep turtles, and they don't follow turtle habits and pursue to show off that their turtles can be ignored. They are especially proud of their peace of mind. If you are afraid of it in your mouth, this method of raising turtles is certainly wrong, but regardless of it, it is not advisable to raise a turtle that violates the biological habits of turtles. Some people show off that their family feeds turtles for a long time, eats leftovers from people, and eats dog food, which is very worry-free. This method may not see a special impact in the short term, but something must happen in the end. There have been cases where Sulcata, who had been eating dog food for many years, had multiple calcifications in his liver after an autopsy. Not pampering but not abusing is the correct way to keep turtles as pets.

(3) Foreign bodies: cases of swallowing foreign bodies often occur in large tortoises such as Sulcata and Yada. These foreign bodies include iron, large stones, etc.; foreign bodies, definitely not only refer to these. There are also some scattered things that do not pose a threat. They will become pathogenic sources when they accumulate in small numbers, or when they carry germs or when the resistance of tortoises decreases for various reasons, such as coconut soil bedding, some Seeds in the middle of the fruit, etc. There have been cases where the irradiated tortoise ate the cactus fruit, which contained many small seeds, but the small number became more, resulting in severe intestinal obstruction and collapsed to death.

(4) Pesticide residues and poisonous food: In order to avoid this problem, tortoises walking on lawns in parks and communities should pay attention to observe that they cannot eat the grass in these places, because pesticides are generally used in pots. . Buy fruits and vegetables, wash them thoroughly. Refuse to use ivermectin to deworm the turtle.

(5) Unsuitable environment: This is reflected in four aspects, temperature, bedding material or water quality, air quality, feeding method, etc. If the temperature before and after feeding does not reach the suitable physiological metabolic temperature, the turtle's stomach will not be able to function well, which is likely to cause indigestion. The bedding material is too dirty, the water quality is polluted by bacteria, and it is eaten by turtles, which will cause gastroenteritis when the immunity is weakened; the turtle box is highly airtight, the stocking density is high, and the excrement is retained, causing the space to stink, and it will also cause gastrointestinal problems; High-frequency and large-scale feeding will only greatly increase the burden on the intestines. Never think about the feeding method of turtles from the perspective of raising warm-blooded animals such as dogs and cats.
