To raise dragon fish well, water quality and feeding are the keys. So how can arowana grow healthily with scientific and quantitative feeding and standard water quality? Let’s follow the editor today to learn about it!

1. Elements that affect the feeding rate of arowana

1. Specifications of Arowana:

The juvenile stage of Arowana grows rapidly and requires high nutrition. Growth rates gradually decline with age, and so does the need for nutrients.

Notes: In the juvenile stage compared with the semi-adult stage, feeding the same amount of the same feed, the growth rate of the juvenile fish is faster, and the daily food intake can account for more than 50% of the body weight. Feed rate is high.

2. Factors of water temperature:

Fish are all warm-blooded animals, and Arowana is no exception. With the change of temperature, it directly affects the metabolic rate and appetite of Arowana. In the temperature range of 23 degrees to 30 degrees, the food intake of dragon fish increased with the increase of temperature.

Notes: Feeding rates should be determined according to different temperatures, which are reflected in the changes in feeding rates in different months of the year.

3. Factors of water quality:

The quality of water quality directly affects the appetite, metabolism and health of dragon fish. The oxygen content in the water is a factor that directly affects the appetite. We can increase the amount of aeration before and after feeding.

Notes: The feeding amount should be adjusted according to the dissolved oxygen content in the water to reduce the deterioration of the water quality caused by the remaining bait.

4. Factors of feed:

Generally speaking, arowana likes to eat high-quality bait, while low-quality bait will affect the feeding of arowana, or even refuse to eat. The nutrient content of the bait also affects the feeding rate, especially the protein content, which has a great influence on the feeding rate.

2. Instructions for feeding arowana feeds

1. Juveniles under 12cm:

The fish have just started to eat raw bait, and you can feed them just now. Shelled white hydatid, small shrimp (be sure to remove the head and tail, it is best to peel it into a shrimp ball and feed it to avoid the hard shell hurting its stomach), blood worms and other more palatable bait. Eat smaller meals more times a day and feed it four times a day.

2. Arowana about 15cm:

It can be fed with normal mealworms and small shrimps (the shrimps are best to remove the shrimp sword), and can also be fed with small fish of 1.5cm. At this time, the dragon fish grew rapidly and had an amazing appetite. The number of feedings and the amount of feeding can be appropriately increased.

3. Arowana over 20cm:

You can feed larger fish, shrimp, loach, meat and other bait. You can also feed live baits such as frogs, centipedes, spiders, cockroaches, etc. These are the favorite foods of arowana, but be careful not to contaminate these baits.

4. Not suitable for arowana feed:

The internal organs, especially the liver, are not suitable for feeding the arowana, and its high fat will cause the disease of the arowana. Goldfish in live bait is not a good bait. Studies have shown that the infectious diseases or parasites contracted by arowanas that eat goldfish in small aquariums are almost all infected by goldfish.

3. Treatment of diseases in Arowana in summer

1. Anorexia:

Usually due to a large amount of feeding or feeding of food that is not easy to digest, the stomach of Arowana is caused Discomfort, leading to stop eating. The method is to change 1/3 of the water every day, for 3-4 days in a row, and do not feed during this period.

2. Lying in the tank:

The arowana lying in the tank is mainly due to emotional oppression, usually caused by fright. Method: Turn off the lights and rest, it is not easy to feed during the rest, and it can be fed normally after 3-4 days.

3. Water mold:

Generally due to the water quality is too old or the filter system is not cleaned for a long time, or the dragon fish has trauma or insufficient self-resistance, the body surface is attacked by water mold , a layer of cotton wool-like hyphae is attached to the wound or body surface. Method: As long as you add salt, you can kill it. First, change the water, then heat up, and finally add salt. The proportion of salt is generally 3/1000.
