Marcello Catalano even considered N. smiles to be a common variant of N. mirabilis.

3. Planting of Nepenthes smiles

Nepenthes can be propagated by cuttings from May to June. A section of stem node, the leaves are cut in half, the base is cut into a 45-degree slope, the base of the cutting is wrapped with sphagnum moss, and placed in a pot containing sphagnum moss and pebbles at the bottom of the pot, and a plastic bag is placed to keep the air moist, at about 30 ℃.
