The buds are long oval, and the hairs are grayish-yellow. The leaves are papery or thinly leathery, star-shaped to broadly obovate. The length is 8 to 15 cm, and the width is 6 to 10 cm. The front end is relatively sharp, and the root has an irregular heart shape and is relatively rough. The inflorescences are head-like or short-spike-like, with several flowers, without pedicels, bracts ovate, and the stalks of the inflorescences are very short, less than 5 mm. The calyx tube is also relatively short and connate with the ovary. The petals are ribbon-shaped, about 1.5 cm in length, and yellowish-white in color.

2. Habits of Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is mostly grown on hillsides, valleys, broad-leaved forest margins, and in thickets; it is an alpine tree species, and is often distributed vertically at altitudes 600~1600 meters. Witch hazel is a warm tree species. It has strong cold resistance. It can grow in the open field at a temperature of -15 ℃. Hi light. But the juvenile stage is more shade-tolerant. It can grow in semi-shade conditions. The soil requirements are not strict, and it can grow in acidic and neutral soils. It grows best in fertile, moist, loose, and well-drained sandy soils.

3. Cultivation of witch hazel

Most of the cultivation of witch hazel is propagated by seed sowing. Then put it in the sun for two or three days, wait until the husk is cracked, and then take out the seeds. About half a month to 20 days after sowing, 1/3~1/2 of the sprouts are unearthed. Take advantage of the cloudy or sunny evening, gently remove the cover grass. After that, if the soil loosening, weeding, topdressing, and drought resistance are done in a timely manner, good seedlings can be cultivated. The seedlings are transported from the period after the seedlings have fallen to the next spring before the leaves, and the bare roots can be planted or transplanted to obtain a high survival rate. Asexual reproduction methods such as layering (high pressure), grafting, and cuttings can also be used to increase the population.
