Morphological characteristics: The body is elongated, slightly flattened on the side, and the tail tapers backward. Generally, the length is 25 to 40 cm, and the weight is 300 to 750 grams. The head is large, the mouth is large, the upper jaw is slightly longer than the lower jaw, and there is a tentacle on the neck, which is equal to or slightly longer than the eye diameter. Both jaws and vomer have villiform teeth. The body is covered with small round scales that are easy to fall off, with obvious lateral lines, 3 dorsal fins and 2 anal fins. Each fin has no spines and is entirely composed of fin rays. The head, back and sides of the body are gray-brown with irregular dark brown markings, and the ventral surface is gray-white. The chest is light yellow, and the other eels are gray.

Origin and season: distributed in the North Pacific. China originates in the Yellow Sea and the northern part of the East China Sea. The main fishing grounds are in the northern part of the Yellow Sea, the east-southeast of Shandong Gaojiao, the southern part of Haiyang Island and the southeastern sea area. The fishing season has two flood seasons, winter and summer. The winter flood season is from December to February of the following year; the summer flood season is from April to July.
