The puppy period is an important period for the development of the dog's psychological and physiological functions. During this period, an environment conducive to physical and mental development is created for the puppy, the psychology of the puppy is shaped in a targeted manner, and certain qualities are cultivated to be a puppy. Beneficial protection for growing into a qualified working dog.

I. Shaping a healthy psychology

The psychological development of puppies is closely related to the environment. When the puppies meet the basic survival needs or after that, the puppies interact with the external environment. During this period, the puppies have little effect on the outside world and are mainly affected by various information from the outside world. The living environment of the dog will affect the dog's understanding of the outside world. Shaping the dog's perfect psychology can start from the following aspects:

(1) Meeting the needs of the puppy's safety is the basis for the puppy's mental health. Pros and cons are the only knowledge a puppy has of the outside world. In the process of maintaining the survival of the puppy's body, the characteristic of seeking advantages and avoiding disadvantages is very prominent. For dogs at the age of two to six weeks, the sensory organs have been gradually improved, and the learning method of imprinting is playing a greater role. During this period, it is easy to form a stable and unchangeable memory to external noxious stimuli. Therefore, during this period, a safe environment should be created, so that the puppies will not be unintentionally stimulated by surprises, and the puppy nurses should establish a good relationship with both the bitch and the puppies. Important environment, the resulting safe shelter creates favorable conditions for the puppies to be separated from the bitch, so that the puppies are confident in their growth. The timidity and nervousness of adult dogs were analyzed in many cases, which were often related to the noxious stimuli received by puppies. For puppies, safety is everything.

(2) The group relationship of puppies is an important step in the psychological growth of dogs, which can promote the further development of the senses and increase the ability of information exchange. The group living habits of dogs are the foundation laid in the early life, and the habits of adult dogs when they get along with each other have more traces of getting along with puppies. For dogs before the age of five weeks, due to small functional differences and very similar activities, mutual communication is not easy to cause harm to each other, and the behavior of biting and chasing during this period is an exercise of the dog's hunting instinct, so during this period, Providing dogs with a place to stimulate dog communication, such as lawns, can promote the dog's judgment of space and enhance the puppy's physical strength; changing the puppy's venue can also provide more opportunities for dogs to play.

(3) The guidance of the dog's individual consciousness is the key to the dog's psychological growth. In the sixteenth week of the body growth period, with the emergence and intensification of the differences in the body, the dog's activities have a strong self-awareness, which is caused by and characterized by the fight for food. The evolution and aggravation of the dog's individual consciousness has led to the puppies' further understanding of themselves, resulting in behaviors based on conditioned reflexes, such as not daring to eat the food that appears, and not daring to take possession of the items that are picked up. At this time, the dogs should be kept separately. It is very important to grasp the timing. The behavior of puppies should be selected for a period of time without serious psychological pressure on the puppies. This is a way to help build self-confidence. When separated, the puppies should be kept in visual contact first. to maintain its needs for the population. The isolation and training of space is the beginning of developing the personality of the inferior dog and making the temperament of the superior dog. At this time, based on the feeding of the dog, the body of the dog is full of energy. Set up separate enclosures for mutual barking and bullying opportunities with other dogs. In neglected management of group feeding, the difference between superior and inferior dogs will intensify, resulting in neuroticism and lack of self-confidence in inferior dogs. In contrast, dogs with particularly weak types or neurotic traits are rarely found in domestic dogs, which may have a lot to do with timely division.

(4) The play behavior of puppies is the reaction of the psychological characteristics of dogs. There is significantly more play between puppies than adults. The dog's play behavior is constantly changing as the puppy grows. It is also an enlightenment stage for developing certain working abilities. There are two necessary conditions for this behavior to occur: one is to have inner pleasant emotions, and the other is to have excess energy. Therefore, creating an environment for dogs to complete play behaviors, trainers playing with dogs, and providing dogs with play items such as balls, linen, wooden blocks and other toys are also catalysts to promote their development of play behavior and healthy psychology. Once the dog has obvious fighting in the game, it should be stopped artificially. For those dogs who are not good at playing, you can use the time in the morning and evening to create opportunities when the puppy is excited, and use its excitement to make the dog discover the fun of the game. Through play activities, the dog's activity and confidence are enhanced, which is very beneficial for him to become a working dog.

Second, the cultivation of puppies' physiological quality

It is based on the basic activity ability of dogs. Certain qualities are also a must for a working dog. For police working dogs, the training of puppies should be strengthened in the following aspects.

(1) Physical strength of dogs. A dog's physical strength is the foundation of a dog's mobility and endurance. After the puppies can be physically active, physical training should begin. The older the dog is, the more the training of the dog's physical strength should run through the dog's autonomous activities, so that the puppies can control the amount of activity by themselves. As the dog grows, further plans should be made, and the walking distance with the dog should be continuously extended, and the number of times should not be too much. Further, on this basis, increase the training and exercise of the flexibility of the dog's body, such as climbing obstacles, walking narrow bridges, turning and running, etc., to improve physical strength and cultivate flexibility of the body.

(2) The courage of the dog. There is an important period of training the courage of the dog, that is, the dog is five to seven months old. The dog's courage training includes the adaptation of the puppy to the environment and the enhancement of the dog's courage to people. The dog's awareness of the environment is gradually sensitive, and the courage has a tendency to become smaller. In this process, the dog should be played with the dog to generate simultaneous negative induction during the exciting time, while ignoring the existence of unfamiliar things. At this time, the dog should not be forced to complete activities such as going up the stairs, but should be guided to complete it excitedly, so as to prevent the puppies from reacting passively. Do conscious fire and sound exercises. To adapt to people, after the dog can bark, encourage the dog to bark. The trainer cannot use strong mechanical stimulation and avoid other people's yelling and other sound stimulation.

(3) Ability to take title. Picking up objects is one of the must-have abilities of a working dog. The dog's ability to take the title is transformed from the hunting instinct. There are roughly two kinds of methods for cultivating dog picking: It is very important to cultivate the dog's picking ability at an appropriate period of dog development. For two-month-old dogs, even before that, puppies are chasing and picking up objects. At this time, using branches, tennis balls, etc. to guide the dog, it is easier to develop the dog’s ability to pick up the dog by playing with the dog. After a month, the body tends to mature. At this time, if the dog has not developed the ability to pick up, it can be beneficial to the dog's ferocity. If the dog has a strong hatred for people, it can sack the dog with a sackcloth and a wooden stick. The dog's malicious biting turns its hatred from entry to objects. The main point is to enhance the dog's confidence in possession and retrieval of objects.

(4) Correct the bad habits of the puppies. In the feeding and management of puppies, puppies are affected by many factors and may acquire bad habits, such as chasing poultry, besieging people, playing in sewage, etc. Because the development of the nervous system of the dog is not yet perfect, it is difficult to withstand strong stimulation, so the puppies should adopt a strategy of prevention and do not give the dog a chance to display. Once a prohibited behavior occurs, the trainer simply needs to pull away from the prohibition, and should give less mechanical or password stimulation, so that the bad habit will naturally subside.

The cultivation of puppy's psychology and physiology runs through the process of feeding and management of puppies. In this process, the trainer must learn more about the developmental characteristics of the dog, take measures according to the dog's conditions, and give correct guidance to the dog patiently and meticulously in order to cultivate a working dog that meets the training needs.
