Taiwan's Hualien Ocean Park showcases the successful breeding of small nautiluses. This is the first successful breeding record in Taiwan. It has attracted the attention of relevant institutions, experts and scholars inside and outside the island. Japan Toba Aquarium expressed a strong willingness to cooperate and exchange.
So what is the origin of the nautilus? Let the editor of Save Pet Network take you to find out: The nautilus is a marine mollusk, which only exists in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean In the sea area, the shell is thin and light, spirally coiled, the surface of the shell is white or milky white, and the growth lines radiate from the umbilicus of the shell, which are smooth and dense, mostly reddish-brown. The entire spiral shell is as smooth as a disc, shaped like a nautilus, hence the name Nautilus. Nautilus has undergone hundreds of millions of years of evolution on the earth, but its appearance and habits have changed very little. It is called a living fossil in the ocean and has high value in the study of biological evolution and paleontology.
According to Taiwan's ETtoday news report, because the world cannot summarize the breeding and growth conditions of nautilus, it is difficult to carry out artificial breeding. Hualien Ocean Park has been investing in the incubation of nautilus two years ago. The research team strictly controlled various variables such as water quality, water temperature, water flow and seawater density in the incubation environment, and finally successfully cultivated the nautilus; One percent of the adult nautilus is a small nautilus, placed in a small aquarium for tourists to watch.
Hualien Ocean Park stated that the Hong Kong Ocean Park had a record of spawning in 2005, but it was not successfully bred in the end. After 10 years of research, the Japanese Toba Aquarium finally hatched successfully, but a large number of small nautiluses died within 100 days of birth. At that time, the Japanese breeding experience was not successful, because the survival rate of nautilus from spawning to hatching for half a year was almost less than one thousandth. Hualien Ocean Park pointed out that the nautilus still has many mysteries, and will communicate and deepen research with Japan Toba Aquarium in the future.
