How to care for the bitch during childbirth?

After the bitch is determined to be about to give birth, the first thing to do is to prepare for it Afterwards, a straw bed or a clean cloth can be placed on the delivery bed, followed by regular care of the bitch's breasts.

1. Prenatal preparation:

After the bitch is determined to give birth, the delivery room should be prepared first. The location of the delivery room should be a quiet place. Large dogs can be kept in the kennel, small dogs can be kept in the indoor kennel or use a suitable self-made birthing box. The delivery room should have a birthing bed. Have cold protection facilities. The female dog has a process of adapting to the new delivery room. In order to reduce the impact of stress factors on childbirth, it should be moved to the new delivery room 2 weeks in advance.

When giving birth, place a straw mat or a clean cloth on the delivery bed, and then use 0.5% Lysol solution or 2% boric acid solution to scrub the surface of the bitch, especially the buttocks and breasts. Prepare midwifery equipment and necessary items, such as towels, scissors, ligatures, iodine tincture, absorbent cotton or gauze, induction medicine, syringes, incubators, etc. At the same time, milk powder, eggs, clean drinking water, etc. to restore the physical strength of the bitch should also be prepared.

1 month before delivery, the bitch's nipples can be washed every few days with warm water and soap, and then dried to prevent nipple wound infection. The hair around the nipples of long-haired dogs should be clipped before farrowing.

2. Nursing care of childbirth:

1. The childbirth of a bitch generally does not require special care, and is more natural. However, some bitches have poor motherhood or have too many litters and are weak in physique; or when bitches cannot bite off the umbilical cord and have abnormal deliveries such as dystocia, if measures are not taken in time, the mortality rate of the newborn fetus is very high. In order to avoid accidents and reduce deaths, the female dog should be on duty before giving birth.

2. In childbirth care, the most important thing is to tear the fetal membrane in time for the delivered fetus. Suspension of newborn fetuses or stillbirths often occurs during delivery. At this time, the dog mainly performs artificial respiration on the newborn puppy in suspended animation state. First, let the bitch lick off the mucus from the mouth and nose of the fetus or manually wipe it off, and press the chest and body of the fetus in time to move the whole body to promote A newborn fetus makes calls and begins to breathe.

3. When the bitch does not lick the newborn fetus, the dog mainly uses cotton balls to wipe off the mucus of the newborn fetus, and scrubs the whole body of the newborn fetus until the limbs appear red and bark. Then dry the baby's coat with a dry towel and let the baby breastfeed.

4. For newborn fetuses with low barking, poor vitality, and weak sucking power, they should be placed in an incubator. The temperature of the incubator should be 32°C, which is the temperature of the female dog's abdominal wall. If the delivery interval is long, as long as there are no signs of dystocia, you should wait patiently for natural delivery.

5. During childbirth care, strangers should be prohibited from entering the delivery room to avoid interference. In addition, care should be taken not to trample or crush the newborn fetus during labor. After the safe delivery, take the bitch outside the house to excrete the accumulated feces, and wipe the bitch's whole body at the same time to remove the dirt in the delivery room.

Tips: If the mother dog will not help the baby hush after giving birth, the dog owner needs to do it for you

Operation method: The dog owner uses the hand Support the newborn puppy, and gently wipe the baby's genitals with toilet paper with the other hand, and the baby will naturally excrete urine and stool. This action is called hush urine. Usually dog mothers will use their tongues to help their babies pee.
