Physical characteristics of Somali cats

Somali cats originated in Africa. In 1967, the long-haired cats were produced by mutations of purebred Abyssinian cats. Formed variety. Later, after breeding in Europe and the United States and other countries, there are four breeds respectively. It was only recognized by the British Cat Association in 1983. Then in 1991, the Somali cat won the championship status in the British Cat Fan Management Committee.

(1) Overall characteristics

The appearance of the Somali cat is basically the same as that of the Abyssinian cat, but the coat is slightly longer. Slim, slightly round, of medium size, all well-proportioned, muscular and strong. He walks very confidently and has the demeanor of a king.

(2) Appearance characteristics

The Somali cat has a slightly rounded wedge-shaped head, and all Somali cats have dark circles around the eyes with light-colored fur, on the forehead and cheeks. There are clear markings, very unique. The ears are large, broad at the base and narrow at the tip, very alert and V-shaped. The Somali cat has a particularly expressive face, with elf eyes (mostly green, but also amber and light brown) and a moderately sized nose.

(3) Coat characteristics

The Somali cat has a medium-length coat, which is softer, finer and denser than other cats. The hair on the shoulders is shorter, the hair on the legs is longer, and the tail hair is very thick. The coat colors are chestnut silver white, brown red, dark red, blue, silver cream yellow, lavender, blue silver white, silver white, chocolate silver and so on. Among them, dark red is the representative color of Abyssinian cats and Somali cats, and is the most common. All Somali cats have amber, light brown or green eyes.

Somali cats are very intelligent, lively, active, gentle and considerate. The motor nerves are very developed, they like to run, and their movements are agile; their calls are particularly clear and loud, like music. Although the Somali cat is gentle, he can be domineering at times.
