The pathogen of toxoplasmosis is Toxoplasma gondii, referred to as Toxoplasma gondii. Its entire development requires two hosts. Cats are the ultimate host of Toxoplasma gondii. In the small intestinal epithelial cells of cats, fission proliferation and gametogenesis similar to the development of coccidium are carried out, and finally oocysts are formed, which are excreted with cat feces. The oocysts develop through spore proliferation in the external environment. Infectious oocysts containing two sporocysts.

Toxoplasma gondii is not strict in the selection of intermediate hosts. More than 200 species of animals are known, including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and humans. intermediate host. Cats can also serve as an intermediate host for Toxoplasma gondii. In the intermediate host, Toxoplasma gondii can reproduce asexually in the nucleated cells of various tissues and organs throughout the body.

Animals become infected by eating infected oocysts in cat feces or the meat, guts, exudates, feces and milk of intermediate hosts containing T. gondii tachyzoites or cysts. Tachyzoites can also infect the fetus through the skin, mucous membranes, and through the placenta.

[Diagnostic points]

(1) Clinical symptoms: most of them are asymptomatic latent infections. Infections are more common and more severe in puppies and young dogs, and there have been fatal cases in adult dogs. Symptoms are similar to canine distemper and canine infectious hepatitis, mainly manifested as fever, cough, anorexia, malaise, weakness, eye and nose secretions, pale mucous membranes, difficulty breathing, and even severe bloody diarrhea. A small number of sick dogs have severe vomiting, followed by paralysis and other neurological symptoms. Pregnant bitches have miscarriage or premature birth, and the puppies often have symptoms such as loose stools, dyspnea, and ataxia. Blood tests; in the acute stage, red and white blood cells are reduced, and neutrophils are increased. Neutropenia and mononucleosis are rare. In chronic cases, the total number of leukocytes increases, which is mainly due to neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, but there is no bleeding tendency.

(2) Laboratory tests: It is easy to confuse it with canine distemper, especially neurological canine distemper, only by clinical symptoms. Therefore, after comprehensive judgments such as epidemiological analysis and clinical symptoms, the diagnosis must be confirmed by detecting pathogens or confirming that the antibody titer in serum is elevated.

[Prevention]

Do not feed raw meat, prevent dogs from preying on rodents, and prevent cat feces from contaminating feed and drinking water. Timely defense and deworming (Happy Brown Sugar, Golden Shield's Kexin, D-800, Australia's Bairn Nechongqing, there are also special zoonotic vaccines at about 70-80 shots per shot. Generally, Toxoplasma gondii and Coccidia are mostly one drug and two repellents, and common deworming is mostly Ascaris. Some precautions are in order.
