Zhong Zhanhong, director of St. John's Ambulance Society, said that this is the first time to hold a training course for pet owners, hoping to increase owners' understanding of their pets, improve the level of care, and enhance their confidence in dealing with sudden injuries and diseases.

This pet first aid course includes eight hours of theoretical and practical lessons, allowing 40 pet owners to understand basic animal anatomy, wound care, dressing and other skills. In addition, animal models are used to simulate wound dressing and cardiopulmonary treatment for dogs. Students have to take a total of eight hours of theoretical and practical courses. There are also food contraindications for pets and how to assess a pet's injury or condition, and how to detect emergencies that require immediate veterinary care.

Veterinarian Dai Jiling hopes that before the pets are sent to animal clinics or hospitals, proper treatment of wounds or first aid can delay the deterioration of the injuries. She said that some owners do not know enough about pets, and would rather believe some wrong first aid methods on the Internet than seek professional help. In the end, they are disadvantaging and cause their pets to die. She hopes to provide first aid courses to help pets The owner learns real, helpful first aid knowledge.

Ms. Wu, who owns a 13-year-old squirrel dog, participated in a first aid class with several friends who are also pet lovers. She said her pet dog was more prone to asthma and breathing difficulties in dry weather, which made her anxious and helpless. Zhong Zhanhong said that the St. John Ambulance Society and the Veterinary Society have trained 70 pet first aid instructors last year.
