Parents who have raised bitches should have experienced the process of dogs giving birth. Not only do they need to prepare a lot of things before giving birth, but they also need to pay attention to a lot of nutrition and care during the period of giving birth. Relevant matters needing attention, here is a brief introduction to the process of the Butterfly Dog from the pre-cub and the separation process:

What

1) Prenatal preparations

A few days before the due date, the pregnant butterfly dog bitches will automatically look for hidden corners, under the shed, etc. It is an instinct that bitches have, which means that they will give birth soon. At this time, people should start to prepare for the dog's childbirth. Specifically, do the following work.

1. Do a good job of hygiene

The delivery room should be cleaned thoroughly, the mattress should be replaced, sprayed with 0.5% Lysol water or other disinfectant, and the ventilation should be maintained. . The whole body of the bitch should be washed again, especially the buttocks and breasts, which can be washed with 0.1% of the new cleanser.

2. Making the delivery box

The delivery box can be made of wooden nails, and its height is based on the principle of not letting the puppy run out. In order to make it easy for the puppy to enter and exit, there should be a gap on one side of the delivery box, and some thin wooden strips with small gaps should be laid at the bottom, and then soft short grass or old blankets, rags, etc. should be laid on the top (see Figure 5-1). The inner wall of the birthing box must be smooth without sharp protrusions to prevent scratching the puppy. The production box should be placed on bricks or wooden blocks to facilitate ventilation and keep the box dry.

3. Prepare delivery tools

Such as scissors, sterile gauze, cotton balls, 70% alcohol, 5% iodine, 0.5% Lysol, 0. 1% Xinjieer off and so on.

(II) Signs of labor

The body temperature of bitches begins to drop about 3 days before labor. The normal rectal temperature is 38~39℃. will drop 0.5~1.5℃. When the body temperature begins to rise, it indicates that labor is imminent. The breasts of the female dog are enlarged and full within 2 weeks before delivery, and a small amount of milk can be expressed from the nipple 2 days before delivery. A few days before delivery, the vulva becomes tender, swollen, and congested, the folds on the skin of the labia expand, and the vaginal mucosa flushes. 24 to 36 hours before childbirth, the bitch loses appetite, even stops eating, acts impatiently, and often grabs the ground with its claws, especially in primiparous bitches. 3 to 10 hours before delivery, the bitch begins to experience labor pains, restless, yawning, moaning or screaming, scratching the grass, shortness of breath, increased frequency of urination, obvious collapse of the buttocks ischial tuberosity, swelling of the vulva , If there is mucus outflow, it means that labor will be delivered within a few hours. Usually delivery is mostly in the early morning or evening, and special attention should be paid to strengthening observation during these two periods.

(III) Delivery process

The length of delivery varies depending on the number of litter and the physique of the bitch. It is generally 3 to 4 hours, and the interval between the birth of each fetus is 10 to 30 minutes. Under normal circumstances, bitches will instinctively handle everything without the need for special care, especially for native breeds. However, some valuable toy dogs or purebred dogs have poor instincts and need help from people. Therefore, during childbirth, someone needs to watch and deal with problems in time.

Parturient bitches often take a side-lying position, look back at the abdomen, appear grumbling, moaning, rapid breathing, and then stretch out the hind legs. At this time, thin fluid flows from the vulva, and then the first pack is produced. For a fetus with fetal membranes, the bitch will quickly tear the membranes with her teeth, then bite off the umbilical cord and dry the mucus on the fetus. If the first fetus can be delivered smoothly, the other fetuses generally do not suffer from dystocia.

Dogs are multi-breed animals. The number of litter per litter is generally 6 to 9, ranging from 1 to 2 to 16, and the highest record is 25. To determine whether the delivery is over, generally, the bitch becomes quiet after giving birth to a few fetuses, keeps licking the puppy's coat, and does not see her efforts again after 2 to 3 hours, which means that the delivery is over. But there are also a few who give birth again after a few hours.

Precautions during delivery:

First, the dog delivery place should be dark and not bright, so as to prevent the bitch from being excited. There should be no noise around, and it is strictly forbidden for many people to watch, otherwise it will make the bitch too nervous and cause dystocia.

Second, pay attention to observe the bitch's action of biting off the umbilical cord, and stop it in time when it is found that the bitch has cae-eating addiction.

Third, it is normal for bitches to eat placenta after giving birth. It has a prolactin effect, but eating too much will cause gastrointestinal digestive disorders. Usually eat 2-3 pieces.

Fourth, when the pregnant dog has flowed out a lot of thin fluid from the vulva for several hours, or the fetus has not been fully delivered after 10 minutes of exposing the vulva, it means that the female dog is dystocia. Do a caesarean section.

Fifth, after delivery, if there is still a lot of bright red excretion in the vagina, it indicates that there may be heavy bleeding in the birth canal. The vagina should be blocked with absorbent cotton immediately and sent to the veterinary clinic for treatment.

(IV) Midwifery

When the female dog is weak and the fetus is difficult to deliver normally, artificial midwifery should be used. Midwives should wash their hands and disinfect them with alcohol cotton or 0.1% new cleanser. If the midwife has an injury on the hand, latex gloves should be worn to prevent infection.

The specific method of midwifery is: hold the part of the fetus exposed by the vulva with the hand, gently return the fetus during the interval of the bitch's efforts, and turn the position a little, and then take advantage of the bitch's hard work. When in charge, pull out carefully, and the movements should be light and steady. Under normal circumstances, the fetus can be delivered smoothly.

After the fetus is delivered, the fetal membrane is quickly torn, and the mucus in the nose and mouth is wiped with gauze to prevent the fetus from suffocating. If the bitch does not cut the umbilical cord, it can be ligated at the root of the umbilical cord, cut it 2 cm away from the navel, and then smear the cut end with 5% iodine to prevent infection. The fetus is then placed to the bitch's mouth and allowed to lick dry. If the airway of the delivered fetus is suffocated or suspended due to entering the amniotic fluid, the fetus should be lifted upside down, tapped gently to drain the amniotic fluid, and the mucus in the nostrils should be wiped off. If it is still not breathing, artificial respiration should be performed.

(5) Postpartum care

First, after the bitch gives birth, the vulva, tail, breast and other parts of the vulva should be washed with warm water. , replace the polluted mattress, pay attention to the insulation and moisture-proof of the delivery room.

Second, always pay attention to the bitch squeezing the puppy.

Thirdly, do not allow strangers to visit, let alone touch or catch the puppy with your hands, in case the bitch eats the puppy because of the peculiar smell.

Fourth, bitches generally don't eat within 6 hours after giving birth. Except for urination and defecation, they always rest in the litter. At this time, warm water can be given to them to drink. Within 2 to 3 days after giving birth, bitches have poor appetite and should be fed more high-quality and low-volume food every day.

Fifth, although the eyes of the newly born puppy are closed, they can find the nipple by smell and touch, and start sucking. Pay attention to the lactation of the bitch. If the bitch does not return to the birthing box for a long time after giving birth or the puppy moves and barks for a long time, it may be a sign that the bitch has no milk or is sick, and artificial breastfeeding or breastfeeding should be considered.

Sixth, it is necessary to do a good job of antifreezing and keeping warm for puppy dogs in winter. Can increase the bedding, bedding, kennel door hanging cold curtain and so on. If the temperature of the kennel is too low, infrared heaters or infrared lamps can also be used for heating. If the puppies are piled together to warm each other, the temperature is low. If the puppy is far away from the heater, it means the temperature is too high. According to this, the suitable temperature for the puppy can be adjusted.
