When frightened, it raises its tail,

and sprays a mist of acetic acid from the rear glands to drive away predators. It usually rests and hibernates under wet rocks during the day. Due to its flat body, it is easy to sneak, and it is difficult to find unless the rocks are opened. Nocturnal hunting is dominated by insects, and eating habits begin with the thoracic segment of insects, often feeding once a day. Due to the poor predation ability of whip scorpions, they are often starved in the wild, so there will be two scorpions cannibalism. Male and female can be distinguished from the shape of the tentacles. Because this creature breathes with book lungs, it is more adaptable to humid and high temperature places and can dive for more than three minutes. In the past, the Taiwan whip scorpion was originally widely distributed in rural fields or rivers and rock crevices in the province, with few natural enemies. Due to the great changes in the environment, it has gradually become rare. Now it is often seen in the hilly areas of central and southern Hunan, in mountains or fields, and even in rural toilets.

Diet

Prefers to eat small crickets, spiders, and small to medium insects.

The whiplashes feed on insects such as cockroaches, crickets, locusts, and ants. The tentacles catch and tear the prey, which is then passed on to the chelicerae. There are whip scorpions that come out at night and hide under leaves and rocks during the day. A few live in deserts, most prefer moist habitats.
