When shopping for a fold cat, be sure to check the elasticity of the tail, and check the legs and feet. Not bulky or inflexible due to stubby legs or separated toes. The elasticity of the tail can be judged by a very gentle stroke from the base of the tail in a slight arch to the tip of the tail. If the elasticity is normal, this arched stroke will not cause discomfort to the cat. Again, this action has to be very gentle!

Scottish Fold pricing depends on appearance, corresponding markings and pedigree, such as Super Champion (GC), National or Regional Champion (NW or RW), Excellent Breeding Cat (DM), etc.

DM title refers to the dam (i.e. mother) who has bred 5 CFA Superchamps/Neutered Superchamps or DM offspring, or the male (i.e. father) who has bred 15 CFA Superchamps/sterilized Group Super Champion or DM descendant. Breeders usually don't transfer kittens until after 12 to 16 weeks of age.

After 12 weeks, the kitten has received the most basic vaccinations and is relatively stable physically and psychologically, and can adapt to the new living environment, competition or air transport. To provide this rare animal with a healthy, long-lived, and happy life, we should keep them indoors, neutered, and provide the proper surfaces needed for natural scratching habits (e.g. scratching boards, etc., CFA opposes giving cats toe-scratch removal or tendonectomy).
