1. Etiological analysis of tortoise white eye disease

2. Symptoms of white eye disease in pet turtles

White eye disease in pet turtles is usually caused by excessive stocking density and the lack of timely water changes in the breeding box , caused by deterioration of water quality and excessive alkalinity. The eyes of the diseased turtle were inflamed and congested, gradually turning gray and swollen. The cornea and nasal mucosa are eroded due to eye inflammation, and in severe cases, both eyes will be blinded and breathing will be obstructed. The outside of the eyeball is covered with white secretions and the eyes cannot be opened. Sick turtles often wipe their eyes with their forelimbs, move slowly, stop eating in severe cases, and finally die of exhaustion due to frailty and other diseases. Some sick turtles have only one eye diseased in the early stage of the disease, if no measures are taken, the other eye will soon show symptoms.

3. Suggestions for the treatment of pet tortoise white eye disease

Pet turtle white eye disease is a pet tortoise, tortoise, eye-spotted water turtle, painted turtle and other pets Turtles are more susceptible, and hatchlings have a higher incidence. Mild white eye disease is mainly seen in young Brazilian turtles, while severe white eye disease may lead to blindness in both eyes of the turtle, so it must be treated as soon as possible to avoid serious impact on the health of pet turtles.

For turtles with mild disease (who can still open their eyes and eat actively), the turtles can be immersed in low-concentration saline, or kept in 15 mg/L nitrofurazone or furazolidone solution for a week. It can be healed in a short time. Or soak it in a liquid with a concentration of 30 mg/L for 40 minutes a day, and it can be cured by continuous soaking for about a week.

If the turtle is seriously ill (refuses to eat and cannot open its eyes), it should be soaked in an antibiotic solution (500-1000 units of antibiotics per milliliter) for more than one hour every day, and then treated with antibacterial drugs. Apply eye ointment to the affected area and keep it in a dark place to promote the white secretions to fall off as soon as possible.

For turtles with severe disease (eye erosion), first remove the white matter and white necrotic epidermis in the eyes, and continue to clean up if there is bleeding. The turtle is then soaked in a liquid containing vitamin B and oxytetracycline. The liquid medicine is prepared according to the ratio of 1/2 tablet of oxytetracycline and 2 tablets of vitamin B per 500 grams of water. Sick tortoises may lose their eyesight.

If treating green-haired turtles, apply 1% furazolidone solution to the eyes instead of whole body immersion. Or dissolve medisol in the feeding water, 1 piece per mouth of glass gold fish (details) tank, this method should be used for green turtles. Streptomycin can also be dissolved in water, so that every 1 mg of water contains 100,000-200,000 international units, which is suitable for the treatment of green-haired turtles and other small water bodies of turtles and turtles.

4. Preventive measures for pet tortoise white eye disease
