What is lactose intolerance

Once the hamster pups have been weaned around day 21, the level of lactase synthesis in the body drops to 10% of pre-weaning levels. Diarrhea in hamsters is caused by ingesting more lactose in milk than can be digested, which is often referred to as lactose intolerance.

Most of the lactose intolerant patients are unable to digest the lactose in milk, and other milk sources such as goat milk are less likely to have this symptom.

Why is it easy to have diarrhea after drinking it

It is not recommended to feed hamsters or other pets with milk. Almost all pets are lactose intolerant once weaned. This is because, once weaned, animals cannot synthesize enough of the enzyme lactase, an enzyme necessary for the digestion of lactose in the small intestine. Lactose in milk is one of the natural sugars, and this lactose can cause hamsters to pull soft yellow and green stools, and in severe cases, direct diarrhea.

What dairy products are available

Dairy products for small pets. Some of the main raw materials are lactose in milk products for small pets, which are usually decomposed during processing or decomposed by some bacteria added during processing, so they can be used as a good supplement or snack for hamsters.

Note

Some people think that boiled or skim milk is fine for hamsters, but heating does not reduce the lactose content of milk , so it cannot be eaten by hamsters.
