1982, located on an Oregon farm near ancient hunting and Wishram India A native of the fishery, six small litter were born to barn cats. One of the kittens was born completely bald -- doesn't look like her mother or her littermates at all. While the kitten has no hair, it has large wide-spaced ears and a drawing pattern on her skin that mimics a classic tabby pattern. Within eight weeks the kittens begin to grow very soft, curly hair. At age kittens, now named "curly three to four months", have a full coat of curly hair. Being very knowledgeable about cats, the owner accepts "mutants" as unique and thinks nothing more of the problem. |
The attempt was not made Selectively bred, but over the next 10 years, when a small frequency of baldness increased in random breeding litter, the farm's owner began looking for additional information about her unusual cat. She did not understand genetics or breeding and thus allowed the cats to roam freely in barns and orchards for several years. When she discovered how truly unique these cats were, she started restricting cats and controlling breeding. It appears that the curl gene is dominant and carried by both males and females. The breeder was totally unprepared for the pussy and excitement she decided to feed at the cat show. The owner gave the cat the breed name "LaPerm" which means wavy or rippled. |
