Senior Filippi noticed that the guppy looked very similar to Poecilia, so he called it Letes poeciloides, and the name "guppy" was waited until the British botanist Robert John Lechmere Guppy brought it from Trinidad. After returning some specimens for identification, Dr. Albert Gunr (person name) of the British Museum identified this specimen as a new species. In honor of Robert Guppy, he called it Girardinus guppyi, and the name "guppies" was established since then.
