Their back scales are the most peculiar, you can see large pieces of bare skin, And the scales are separated by large gaps. These scales have a strong keel shape that gives the snake a rasp feel - hence the name rasp snake.

Usually inhabits moist areas, but can also be found in hotter desert areas.

Occupy rodents' dilapidated, abandoned burrows where they can be cooler.

Rasp snakes are also good at digging on their own, and their flat heads help them navigate through dirt and fallen leaves.

Nocturnal, hunting other reptiles at night.
