The round-spotted snake is a national level protected animal

The small-headed snake has been included in the List of Beneficial or Important Economic and Scientific Research Terrestrial Wildlife Protected by the State issued by the State Forestry Administration of China on August 1, 2000.  Haslisted in the China Biodiversity Red List - Vertebrate Volume, with an assessment level of Near Threatened (NT).

The round-spotted small-headed snake is a small reptile belonging to the genus Small-headed snake in the family Serpentidae. Distributed in Yunnan and other places in China. The round-spotted snake is a non-venomous snake, extremely docile, and will not bite without aggression. The original ecological round-spotted snake mainly sucks various reptile eggs: lizard eggs, snake eggs, turtle eggs, and turtle eggs.
