The total length of the Mangshan Ironhead Snake can reach more than two meters. A part of the dorsal scales is yellow-green and gathers in clusters to form lichen-like spots, which are equidistant from dark brown and run through the body and tail. The left and right lichen-like spots meet in the dorsal midline, forming complete horizontal stripes or slightly staggered front and rear.

Mangshan soldering iron head The snake head is slightly triangular with cheek sockets, and it looks like a soldering iron, hence the name. The snout is narrow and rounded. The snout is prominent. The snout scales are slightly triangular in shape. The lower 1/3 slopes slightly inward. The top is curved slightly upwardsback. There are small scales on the back of the head. Smooth without edges. Among them, the supraorbital scale is the largest. and slightly raised. There are about 9 (7) small scales in a horizontal row between the left and right supraorbital scales.
