Japanese stone turtles are omnivorous, but tend to be more carnivorous. Aquatic insects, worms, tadpoles, insects, snails, shrimp, forage fish, frogs, weeds are all edible, and cat and dog food pellets can also be used as part of their recipes.

You can also feed aquatic plants and other green leafy vegetables , and occasionally some fruit. Japanese stone turtles can also receive pelleted flotation turtle diets formulated for terrapins, and a source of calcium such as cuttlefish bones or boiled egg shells should also be supplied.
