The male Aldabra giant tortoise can grow to over 130 cm and weigh up to 250 kg, and can only be moved by a crane. The female turtle is about 90 cm smaller, and the amount of animal excretion of this size is also amazing. The Aldabra giant tortoise breeding season runs from February to May. Females lay about 25 eggs nine days after mating and lay their eggs in a shallow nest, but usually less than half of the eggs are fertilized. Females can also lay multiple clutches of eggs a year. Incubation takes about 8 months, and hatchlings hatch independently between October and December.

In the environment of artificial breeding, the date of spawning vary. A female can usually lay eggs in November and then in January, and when the weather is warm, the hatchlings will break out of their shells. The zoo also helped hatch the turtle eggs, which were kept at a temperature of 81 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, split evenly between two incubators, the latter of which hatched after 107 days.
