Eastern Florida Diamondback Turtles

The eastern Florida diamond turtle looks darker carapace, while the central part of the scutellum is lighter in color. The growth ring pattern on the carapace is not very obvious, and the pattern on the top of the head is dotted, like a cut pitaya. We can distinguish between males and females of Eastern Florida Diamondback Turtles in the following ways.

1. The average shell length of male eastern Florida diamond turtles is 13 centimeters, with an average shell length of 19 centimeters in females of eastern Florida. The largest recorded female eastern Florida diamondback is 23 centimeters long.

2. The male East Florida Diamondback has a long tail and a thick base, forming an acute-angled triangle. The female eastern Florida diamondback has a short tail and a small, striped base.

3. Male eastern Florida tortoises have an empty cloaca on the tail, far from the rear edge of the plastron, and the hole is elongated. The female eastern Florida diamondback has a rounded hole on the tail, close to the rear edge of the plastron.

4. The center of the plastron of the male eastern Florida tortoise is slightly concave inward. The plastron of the female East Florida tortoise is flat with no depression in the center.
