Egyptian tortoises do not hibernate in winter, but are very active, mainly because they live in desert and semi-arid regions where temperatures are very hot.

However, although Egyptian tortoises do not hibernate, they do aesthetize. Whenever the temperature of the living area exceeds 30 ℃, the activity of the Egyptian tortoise will decrease, and it will burrow into the sand and enter a state of aestivation.
