The biggest feature of the vine snake's appearance is its extremely slender and long body. The head of the vine snake is narrow and long, and it is very clearly distinguished from the neck. The upper edge of the snout scale of the vine snake is slightly higher than the internasal scale, and the internasal scale and the forehead scale are longer. The dorsal scales of the vine snake are relatively smooth, with only 9-11 rows of ribs in the center of the base of the tail, the ridge scales are significantly enlarged, and the dorsal scales on both sides are arranged in obvious oblique rows.
