The flower snake is a small and medium-sized snake with a total length of about 1 meter. The head is narrow and long, clearly distinguished from the neck, with a snout edge, large eyes, and round pupils; the body is slender and the tail is long. 9(3-3-3) upper lip scales, 1 cheek scale; 1 preorbital scale, 2 retroorbital scales; 2+3(2) temporal scales. 17-17-13 rows of dorsal scales, smooth; 174-206 ventral scales, 2 anal scales, and 72-107 pairs of lower caudal scales.

The back of the snake is taupe or light yellow, with 4 brown stripes Or black-brown longitudinal lines; ventral surface is yellowish-white or white, with dark longitudinal lines on both outer sides of ventral scales.
