Usuli pit viper has been included in the List of Beneficial or Important Economic and Scientific Research Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State issued by the State Forestry Administration of China on August 1, 2000.

Usuli pit viper lives mostly in mountainous areas , hills, forest edges, grasses, bushes, ditch, fields, ponds, etc., when entering and leaving the sting, it is more common in the rubble. Rarely seen in high mountains and forests. There are fixed habitats, and the activity range is generally no more than 3 kilometers. The temporary habitats vary, depending on the amount of food. It mainly eats rats and frogs, but also eats fish, loach, and occasionally lizards and snakes.
