The Asian giant tortoise is one of the largest of the hard-shelled, semi-aquatic Asian water turtles. On the yellow plastron, each scutellum has bright dark brown lines, forming a prominent radial pattern, and the lifespan is generally about 80 years.

The Asian giant tortoise is an omnivorous tortoise, mainly plants. Most notions believe that Asian giant tortoises are predominantly vegetarian in nature. However, under the condition of artificial breeding, a large part of turtles are very keen on meat, and fish and shrimp meat accounts for a large proportion of the more efficient bait ratio. In the fattening season, the proportion of meat can even be increased to more than 60%. The Asian giant tortoises in the southern region are most likely to accept vegetarian food and rarely accept fish and meat, while the Asian giant tortoises in the central production region are more prone to the phenomenon that turtles are too enthusiastic about meat.
