The eastern mesh turtle hibernates. Around November every year, when the water temperature drops below 10°C, the eastern mesh turtle enters hibernation, and can only wake up when the water temperature rises to about 15°C the following year.

When artificially feeding the Eastern Grid turtle, fattening should be strengthened before hibernation , because its starvation resistance is worse than that of ordinary tortoises. Indoor-raised eastern sea turtles mostly hibernate in pools, while wild eastern sea turtles mostly hibernate in rock caves with water flow.
