The Burmese star turtle is a pure herbivorous turtle. Meat should never be given to the Burmese star turtle. The same vegetables with high protein content, such as beans, should also be excluded from the diet of the Burmese star turtle.

The Burmese star tortoise likes to eat fruits, spiny cacti, plants with thick stems and leaves, and thistles. Feeding too many succulents in domestic Burmese star turtles can make Burmese star turtles prone to gastrointestinal problems.
