Donut turtles like to sleep out of the rhizomes of aquatic plants. If the temperature is very warm, donut turtles can be normal activities and foraging without hibernating. Only a very few donut turtles living in cold areas will burrow into the soil for hibernation, usually about 2 months. During hibernation, the excretory system can be used to obtain oxygen, which is more convenient.

If the donut turtle is young, the water temperature should always be stable at 28 ℃, the minimum can not be lower than 25 ℃. Adult donut turtles can be raised in a water temperature of 25°C. In winter, the changes in water temperature should be controlled according to changes in temperature.
